We ranked all 44 EPA-rated 1994 special purpose vehicles by what they cost to fuel. The Suzuki Samurai leads at about $1,860 a year (25 MPG), while the Land Rover Discovery is the most expensive to run at $4,558 (13 MPG). The median special purpose vehicle costs $2,735 a year to fuel.

Fuel costs assume 15,000 miles a year at $3.10/gal regular, $3.95/gal premium and 18¢/kWh. Each model is shown in its most efficient configuration.
